My Kitchen Floor

My kitchen floor has seen a lot
Every tear I’ve cried, every dirty sock
All my secrets nobody knows

Every muddy paw and every broken dish
Has touched this floor like it’s made for it
Every open door, every door that was closed
It already knows

It’s seen sunshine and rain through the window
Darkness, and pain, and sorrow
And every prayer for a better tomorrow
Oh, it’s seen love that was strong and steady
Heartbreak that wasn’t ready
And talks till 4 AM on the phone, oh
So if you’ve got questions, the kitchen floor knows

My momma is a hummingbird
She picks up toys and sweeps the dirt
I rarely ever see her sit down

And the baby runs back and forth
Taught the tile’s what they’re made for
And the mat beside the sink is holy ground
And I know that now

Oh, it’s seen sunshine and rain through the window
Darkness, and pain, and sorrow
And every prayer for a better tomorrow
Oh, it’s seen love that was strong and steady
Heartbreak that wasn’t ready
And talks till 4 AM on the phone, oh
So if you’ve got questions, the kitchen floor knows

It’s heard every song I write, every melody I hum
Kept me company at night when sleep just wouldn’t come

It’s seen sunshine and rain through the window
Darkness, and shame, and sorrow
And every prayer for a better tomorrow
Oh, it’s seen love that was strong and steady
Heartbreak that wasn’t ready
And talks till 4 AM on the phone, oh
So if you’ve got questions, oh if you’ve got questions
The kitchen floor knows
Oh, it knows, oh, it knows
